Step-by-step- Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) with a pizza stone or baking steel inside, if using, for at least 30 minutes. If not using, preheat a baking sheet.
- Lightly flour a clean surface and stretch or roll out the pizza dough into a 10-12 inch circle. Carefully transfer the dough to a piece of parchment paper or a lightly floured pizza peel.
- Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving about a 1/2-inch border for the crust.
- Arrange the fresh mozzarella pieces over the sauce. Drizzle with 1 tablespoon of olive oil and sprinkle with a pinch of sea salt.
- Carefully slide the pizza (with parchment paper, if using) onto the preheated pizza stone/baking steel or baking sheet in the oven.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned in spots.
- Remove the pizza from the oven. Immediately scatter the fresh basil leaves over the hot pizza and drizzle with the remaining 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil.
- Let the pizza rest for a minute or two before slicing and serving hot.

Storage & Freezer Guide
Make it last Refrigerator 3-4 days
Store leftover slices in an airtight container or wrapped tightly in foil in the refrigerator.
Freezer Up to 1 month
Wrap individual slices tightly in plastic wrap and then aluminum foil. Place in a freezer-safe bag or container.
Reheat Stovetop/Oven
For best results, reheat slices in a hot skillet over medium heat for a crispy crust, or in an oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5-10 minutes until heated through. Microwave reheating is quicker but may result in a softer crust.
Chef’s Corner
- For an extra crispy crust, preheat your oven with a pizza stone or an inverted baking sheet for at least 30 minutes before baking.
- Don’t overload your pizza! A true Margherita thrives on simplicity; too many toppings can make it soggy.
- Add the fresh basil *after* baking to preserve its vibrant color and delicate aroma, which can be lost if cooked too long.
