Step-by-step- Preheat your grill to medium heat, a stovetop pan to medium, or boil water in a pot.
- If grilling: Place hot dogs on the grill and cook for 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally, until heated through and slightly charred. If pan-frying: Cook hot dogs in a lightly oiled pan for 5-7 minutes, turning until browned. If boiling: Add hot dogs to boiling water, reduce heat to a simmer, and cook for 5 minutes.
- While hot dogs are cooking, prepare the buns. Lightly brush the inside of the hot dog buns with melted butter (if using) and toast them on the grill, in a pan, or in a toaster oven until golden brown and warm.
- Assemble the hot dogs: Place a cooked hot dog into each toasted bun.
- Top generously with your favorite condiments: mustard, ketchup, relish, and diced onions. Serve immediately.

Storage & Freezer Guide
Make it last Refrigerator 3-4 days
Store cooked hot dogs and buns separately in airtight containers. Condiments should be stored separately as well.
Freezer Not recommended
Assembled hot dogs do not freeze well. Uncooked hot dogs can be frozen for up to 2 months in their original packaging.
Reheat Stovetop/Microwave
Reheat cooked hot dogs on a stovetop over medium heat until warmed through, or microwave for 30-60 seconds. Toast buns fresh if possible.
Chef’s Corner
- For extra flavor, try butterflying your hot dogs before grilling or pan-frying to create more surface area for charring.
- Experiment with gourmet toppings like caramelized onions, chili, cheese sauce, sauerkraut, or a homemade coleslaw.
- Always toast your buns! It prevents them from getting soggy and adds a delightful texture contrast.
